The Wellington Club is New Zealand's oldest private club. Founded in December 1841, it is now housed in an elegant seven-storey building on the same Terrace site as the previous two club houses. The present building was opened in February 1990 by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, who was an Honorary Club Member.
The Club’s vibrant membership reflects New Zealand's diverse community and interests. While tradition still plays an important part in daily Club life, the Wellington Club offers - besides its formal floor on level 5 - attractive, modern and contemporary premises on the 4th and 6th floors. These include an outside balcony on the 6th floor overlooking the Terrace - Wellington's main commercial artery.
